First Freedom Tower Beams Installed

On December 19, two steel beams became the first indication of rebuilding at Ground Zero.  Construction began on what will become the 1776-foot tall Freedom Tower after a dedication ceremony attended by Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Governor George Pataki.  Gathered at the site were those who lost loved ones on 9/11, as well as construction workers and members of the press.  Many expressed relief that the rebuilding efforts were finally underway after five years of controversy.
