Unsung Heroes Helping Heroes, a non-profit organization formed by the workers who responded to 9/11, held its first dinner dance on June 14 at the Marriott in Uniondale. More than 220 people attended, including Suffolk County Legislators Bill Lindsay and Kate M. Browning, and Nassau County Legislator Judy Jacobs, according to Michael Arcari, Director of Faithful Response and board member of Unsung Heroes. Also represented were many of the trade unions and other organizations that support those affected by 9/11.
The fund-raiser was held to raise awareness of the plight of rescue and recovery workers, many of whom now face physical, mental and financial difficulties. The response netted more than $25,000, with a portion going to Faithful Response, who will, in turn, offer needed help. |
