LDRNY and Faithful Response sponsor pastoral retreat
Contributed by Pr. Tom Taylor
LDRNY and partner Faithful Response co-sponsored a Comfort & Renew Retreat, "Strategies for Pastors During Times of Crisis and Anxiety" which was held at St. Ignatius Retreat House, November 13-15. Retreatants enjoyed 5 presentations from The Rev. Dr. Peter Steinke. Dr. Steinke presented on how pastors can work on being a self-differentiated and non-anxious presence, even in the face of fiscal crisis and traumatic times. Dr. Steinke sees from his consulting work around the country, that congregations in conflict have more and more people who are anxious, narcissistic, less tolerant and aggressive.

Rev. Dr. Peter Steinke addresses pastors on retreat |
It is important for both pastors and congregational leaders to work on themselves and their own level of functioning because we cannot control what others do or say. Dr. Steinke also said that leaders need to set boundaries, make "I" statements and take stands on what they believe to be important issues. The group of pastors also enjoyed, sessions of massage, spiritual direction, yoga, free time to enjoy the retreat house and grounds and excellent food! Participants have requested a follow-up one day retreat in the spring.
