Volunteers needed to help relocated hurricane families in New York
New York Cares needs volunteers to help provide assistance to Hurricane Katrina evacuees as they adjust to NYC. Positions include intake specialists, greeters, runners, and technical support. Training will be

Hurricane Welcome Center moves
New York City's Hurricane Katrina Welcome Center at City College has moved. As of today, the Hurricane Katrina Welcome Center's new location is 80 Centre St. (at Worth Street) in Manhattan. The Welcome Center is just north of the Brooklyn Bridge-Chambers Street subway stop served by the 4, 5, 6, J, M and Z lines. As of Oct. 3 at 8 a.m.,the Disaster Assistance Service Center will also relocate to 80 Centre St.
Oct.16 is World Food Day
Support the fight against hunger in your area by donating non-perishables or volunteering at a local pantry or soup kitchen. Lutheran-run food pantries are located on www.LDRNY.org . You can also join the CROP walks at Baldwin Park, Westhampton, Southhampton, Easthamton, and Northern Brookhaven to raise funds for the relief and development work of Church World Service and the hunger ministries on Long Island. Sign-up to be a Faith Leader at Ground Zero
Koinonia NYC offers a unique ministry of hope and healing through Faith Walks at Ground Zero. Visiting groups spend about 3 hours at the LDRNY Comfort and Renew Center, walking around Ground Zero, and at St. Paul's Chapel. Koinonia NYC is looking for additional Faith Walk Leaders to assist with exciting ministry and will offer training on Wednesday, October 19th from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm at 22 Cortlandt Street, 20th Floor. If you would like to attend this or a future training session to see if this volunteer ministry is right for you, contact Pr. Last chance to get two Go Bags during the month of September
In honor of the 4th anniversary of 9/11 and to mark National Preparedness Month, LDRNY is making it easier for people, families, churches and schools to obtain Ready-2-Go Bags. During September, you can get two Go Bags for your single donation. You'll have one bag for you, and get one to give to a friend, family member or associate. Free, fast ways to help hurricane efforts
The need for human and cash resources is daunting in the wake of the recent hurricanes. In our stewardship we are called upon to give our time and talents in response to God's grace. LDRNY partner offers free depression screenings
Lutheran Counseling Center, an LDRNY partner, is offering free depression screenings in a nationwide program organized by the National Mental Health Association. Take a planned Faith Walk around Ground Zero
LDRNY partner Koinonia NYC invites you to take a Faith Walk around Ground Zero. Faith Walks are inspirational and educational tours of Ground Zero and surrounding landmarks, encouraging healing and hope in the face of despair. If you’re planning a trip to New York City, or want to read more about others’ experiences, go to www.LDRNY.org. Participants always report back that they liked the Faith Walk.
