What is Lutheran Disaster Response of New York?

Lutheran Disaster Response of New York (LDRNY) is a joint ministry of the Atlantic District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) and the Metropolitan New York Synod of Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) to aid those affected by Sept. 11.

Its president is the Rev. Dr. Stephen Bouman, Bishop of the Metropolitan New York Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The Rev. Dr. David Benke, pastor of St. Peter's, Brooklyn, Lutheran Church Missouri Synod is vice president. LDRNY is the local expression of the Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR). The Lutheran Disaster Response has been in existence for years, helping disaster victims in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Bahamas and the Caribbean. LDRNY was established in New York after Sept. 11, 2001, by President Benke and Bishop Bouman.

Mikki Baloy is Coordinator. The Rev. Tom Taylor is deputy coordinator for Long Island. Wendy Healy directs communications.

The goal of LDRNY is to Comfort and Renew all those affected by Sept. 11, now and for years to come with desperately needed programs and services.
